Sick kittens need a lot of care and attention. Typically, if the kitten's mother is present in her life, the mother will take extra care of her baby. On the other hand, if there is no mother cat around, then you will have to take up that role and do the best job that you can. In order to succeed in this role, it will be very important to study, read and research about the job on hand to give your kitten the best chance of recovering her health. When you kitten is around 4 to 8 weeks of age, she will begin to wean and consume solid food. So it is important to keep an eye out and monitor her behavior around this critical period. If the mother cat around the house, then she will be of immense help in taking care of a kitten. In fact, she will play the primary role and take a lot of stress and work off your hands. If the mother cat is not in your kitten's life then milk is especially important. Do not give your kitten cow's milk as her digestive system is not prepared for it. Instead, buy a specially formulated brand from the pet shop. Mother cats will also lick their kittens in order to keep them clean. This teaches the kitten how to groom herself. Some older cats will do the same for young kittens that are not their own. Generally, a kitten may pick up this trait instinctively. So watch out for this behavioral change.
